Early Life and Education
Anatoly Grigoryevich Achkasov was born on October 18, 1923, in the village of Bukreevka, Shchigrovsky District, Kursk Oblast. He spent his childhood in a close-knit family that instilled in him a deep love for his homeland.
Young Anatoly excelled in his studies and chose to attend the Shchigrov Agricultural Technical School. However, his education was cut short by the outbreak of World War II.
Military Career
In October 1941, as the enemy approached Moscow, Achkasov was drafted into the Soviet Army. He underwent training as a tank commander at the Kamyshinsk Tank School and quickly became proficient in the operation and combat skills necessary for the role.
Combat Prowess
In October 1942, Achkasov graduated from the tank school and was appointed commander of a tank company in the 100th Tank Brigade. Throughout his military career, he distinguished himself as a courageous and resourceful officer, skillfully leading his troops in challenging combat situations.
During the intense battles on Polish soil in September 1944, Achkasov played a significant role in breaking through enemy defenses at the Wisłok River. His unwavering determination and tactical acumen earned him the respect and admiration of his fellow soldiers.
In another engagement near the town of Rudawka-Rymanowska, Achkasov boldly ordered his tank to crush an enemy anti-tank gun, clearing the way for the infantry to advance. His bravery and quick thinking were instrumental in the unit's success.
Hero of the Soviet Union
On April 10, 1945, Senior Lieutenant Anatoly Achkasov was awarded the prestigious title of Hero of the Soviet Union for his exceptional valor and leadership. His outstanding contributions during the war culminated in a special honor: participation in the Victory Parade in Moscow.
Post-War Life
After his military service, Captain Achkasov returned to civilian life in December 1945. He dedicated himself to the agricultural industry, holding various leadership positions in agricultural organizations. Throughout his career, he remained an unwavering advocate for his community and the advancement of youth.
As a member of the Belgorod Regional Committee of War and Military Service Veterans, Achkasov devoted his time to fostering military-patriotic values among the younger generation.
