Grenada's Javelin Star
Anderson Peters is a Grenadian javelin thrower who has ascended to the pinnacle of his sport, becoming a two-time world champion in 2019 and 2022. Only Jan Železný and Peter Hess have achieved the feat of winning the world javelin title multiple times. Peters is also a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).
Early Success
Peters made his mark on the world stage at the 2017 World Championships in London, where he placed 20th with a throw of 78.88 meters. At the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, he shattered his personal best with a throw of 87.31 meters, securing a gold medal and setting a new Games record.
World Champion
Peters' breakout season came in 2019 when he claimed the world title at the World Championships in Doha, Qatar. With a throw of 86.89 meters, he became the first Grenadian to win a world track and field gold medal.
Olympic Disappointment
Despite his success at the world level, Peters experienced a disappointing outing at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. He failed to qualify for the final, finishing 15th with a throw of 80.42 meters, just two meters short of the qualifying standard.
Redemption in 2022
Peters returned to form in 2022, winning his second world title in Eugene, Oregon. With a stunning throw of 90.54 meters, he outdistanced 2020 Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra by more than two meters.
Personal Best
Peters' personal best stands at an impressive 93.07 meters, which he achieved at the Diamond League meeting in Doha on May 13, 2022. This performance places him among the elite javelin throwers in the world.
