Early Career in Brazil

In 1993, Franço began his professional career with Nacional AM. He later joined XV de Novembro and, in 1995, signed with São Paulo FC.

Breakthrough with São Paulo

Despite initial struggles, Franço established himself as a key player for São Paulo, scoring 182 goals in 323 matches. He won two Campeonato Paulista titles (as the tournament's top scorer), and the Rio-São Paulo Tournament (also as top scorer).

International Debut and National Success

Franço made his international debut with Brazil in 2000 and scored one goal in eight appearances. In 2003, he helped Brazil win the Pan American Games.

Injury and Move to Europe

A severe knee injury in 2002 prevented Franço from participating in Brazil's World Cup triumph. In the same year, he joined Bayer Leverkusen for a record €8.5 million fee.

Mixed Fortunes in Germany

Despite a disappointing first season at Leverkusen, Franço scored 14 goals in the following campaign. However, competition from Berbatov and Voronin limited his playing time.

Departure to Japan

In 2005, Franço moved to Kashiwa Reysol in Japan for €2.5 million.
