Early Life and College Career
Jerry Lamon DeLoach Delk was born in Burgaw, North Carolina, on December 12, 1969. As a standout basketball player at Clinton High School in Mississippi, he led his team to two state championships. Delk continued his basketball career at the University of Kentucky, where he was a key member of the 1996 NCAA championship-winning team. He earned NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player, Southeastern Conference Player of the Year, and First Team All-American honors that year.
NBA Career
Delk was selected with the 16th overall pick in the 1996 NBA draft by the Charlotte Hornets. Over the next decade, he played for several teams, including the Golden State Warriors, Sacramento Kings, Phoenix Suns, Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, Atlanta Hawks, Detroit Pistons, and New Orleans Hornets. In total, he played 545 games in the NBA, averaging 9.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.1 blocks per game.
International Career
In addition to his NBA career, Delk also played professionally overseas. He spent the 2006-07 season with Panathinaikos in Greece, helping the team win the EuroLeague championship. He also played briefly for Karolina Giants in Lithuania.
Post-Playing Career
After retiring from playing basketball in 2008, Delk began a coaching career. He served as an assistant coach for the New Mexico State Aggies men's basketball team. In recent years, he has been active in youth basketball development and mentoring programs.
