Gołota made his professional debut in February 1992 and quickly gained attention with his aggressive style and impressive knockout power. However, his career was marred by numerous controversial incidents, including a disqualification for biting opponent Samson Pouha in 1995.

"Fight of the Year" Against Riddick Bowe

In July 1996, Gołota faced undefeated heavyweight champion Riddick Bowe in a highly anticipated bout. Gołota dominated the early rounds but repeatedly broke the rules, including three illegal blows to the groin. Despite being warned by the referee, Gołota continued to strike low, ultimately leading to his disqualification and a brawl between both camps.
