André Carrillo: A Peruvian Football Prodigy
Early Life and Career BeginningsAndré Carrillo, a Peruvian professional footballer, was born in 1991. His football journey commenced in 2004 at the Esther Grande de Bentín academy. In 2007, he joined the youth system of Alianza Lima, a renowned Peruvian club.
Professional Breakthrough at Alianza Lima
In mid-2009, Carrillo was promoted to Alianza Lima's senior team. He made his professional debut on December 5th, 2009, in a match against Universidad César Vallejo. The match ended in a 2-2 draw.
Ascending Stardom
The following season, Carrillo gained more playing time and showcased his attacking prowess. On February 13th, 2011, he scored his first professional goal in a 4-1 victory over Unión Comercio. His performances caught the attention of several European clubs, including Porto, Groningen, Lazio, and CSKA Moscow.
Transfer to Sporting Lisbon
Carrillo extended his contract with Alianza Lima until December 2013, but his talent eventually led him to greener pastures. On May 6th, 2011, he signed a five-year deal with Sporting Lisbon.
Success in Portugal
Carrillo made an immediate impact at Sporting, scoring his first goal for the club in the Portuguese Cup on December 22nd, 2011. In the league, he netted his maiden goal on January 15th, 2012, but Sporting suffered a 1-2 defeat to Braga.
Move to Benfica
On February 2nd, 2016, Benfica announced that Carrillo had signed a contract until 2021, with the transfer taking effect on July 1st, 2016.
International Career
Carrillo has represented Peru at various levels. In 2011, he competed with the Peruvian U-20 team in the South American Youth Championship. He made his senior debut for Peru on June 28th, 2011, in a 1-0 victory over Senegal. He also played in the Copa América that year, featuring in a match against Chile (0-1).
