Biography of Andrea Corr

Andrea Jane Corr was born on May 17, 1974, and grew up in the Irish town of Dundalk. Her parents, Jerry and Jean Corr, played in their own band called Sound Affair, which performed cover versions of songs by ABBA and The Eagles in local bars and often took their children to their concerts. Encouraged by her parents, Andrea Corr began learning to play the tin whistle, as well as studying the piano under the guidance of her father. In her teenage years, the siblings often rehearsed in Jim's room when he moved into his own place. Andrea sang, Sharon played the violin, and Caroline and Jim played the keyboards.

Formation of The Corrs

By 1990, the family quartet named The Corrs was formed. The group's career began in 1991 after auditions for the Alan Parker film "The Commitments," in which Andrea managed to secure a small role with a few lines. During the auditions, the quartet caught the eye of Irish musician John Hughes, who became their manager. In 1995, The Corrs signed a contract with Atlantic Records and traveled to North America to record their debut album. The album, titled "Forgiven, Not Forgotten," featured Celtic influences and included six instrumental compositions. The album sold well in Ireland, Australia, Japan, and Spain, but it took some time for the group to achieve success in the British and American markets. Nevertheless, the album eventually went platinum in the UK and Australia, as well as quadruple platinum in Ireland, becoming one of the most successful debut albums in the history of Irish bands.

Success and Solo Career

Following their initial success, The Corrs released two more albums: "Talk On Corners" in 1997 and "In Blue" in 2000. The 1997 album received a lukewarm reception, but when the remix version was released, the album topped the charts in many countries and sold over a million copies in the UK and Australia. The "In Blue" album had a more pop-oriented sound, and it debuted at number one in many European countries and Australia. By the mid-2000s, the other members of the group decided to take a break from their career to focus on their families, while Andrea embarked on a solo career. Her solo album, "Ten Feet High," released in 2007, did not achieve commercial success but received positive reviews.

Acting Career

In 2003, Andrea Corr played the role of Anne in the film "The Boys from County Clare" and received an award for Best Actress at the American Comedy Arts Festival. Two other films, "The Bridge" (2005) and "The Thread" (2006), did not bring success to their creators or any new awards to the actress. In an interview in April 2009, Andrea Corr revealed that she found it difficult to cope with the disappointment of the low sales of her debut album, but she planned to record a new album in which she would perform old songs.
