Theater Career

Without any hesitation or doubt, Katsulas entered the professional theater world. He spent three years performing in plays in St. Louis, New York, and Boston. He then dedicated 15 long years to Peter Brook's International Theatre Company, traveling the world and performing in renowned venues such as Lincoln Center in New York and Kennedy Center in Los Angeles, as well as in more unconventional settings like markets in remote African villages, prisons, psychiatric institutions, sewage treatment plants in Switzerland, and agricultural fields in California. Katsulas was undeterred by snow, rain, or sweltering heat, although he never performed on a boat.

Film and Television Career

Katsulas made his mark in the film industry with his role in Michael Cimino's crime action film "Year of the Dragon," which led to him being cast in Ridley Scott's crime thriller "Someone to Watch Over Me." He also played the chauffeur Arthur in Blake Edwards' movie "Sunset" alongside Bruce Willis and James Garner. In addition to his prominent roles in the television series "Babylon 5" and "Star Trek," Katsulas appeared in Andrew Davis' action film "The Fugitive" with Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones.

Later Years and Legacy

From 1986, Katsulas resided in Los Angeles, continuing to work in television and film. When asked which he preferred, theater or cinema, he wittily replied, "It's like choosing between apple pie and baklava." According to the creator of the series "Babylon 5," J. Michael Straczynski, Katsulas had such a passion for smoking that it was indescribable. Eventually, Katsulas was diagnosed with incurable lung cancer. He passed away on February 13, 2006, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 59, leaving behind a wife and two children.
