Biography of Andreas Seppi

Andreas Seppi is an Italian tennis player who turned professional in 2000. He initially played in ATP Futures and ATP Challenger tournaments for the first three seasons of his career. Seppi achieved his first victory in a Futures tournament in Munich, Germany in 2003.

In 2004, Seppi made his debut in the Davis Cup, representing Italy. He lost to Irakli Labadze from Georgia in a five-set match. He then made his Grand Slam debut and defeated Rainer Schüttler, whom he was already familiar with. This performance allowed Seppi to break into the top 100 tennis players in the world for the first time in his career.

In 2006, Seppi reached the semifinals of the Sydney International tournament on hard courts and the Nottingham Open on grass courts. Prior to this, Seppi had mainly achieved success on clay courts. His victory over Lleyton Hewitt in Sydney ended Hewitt's four-year winning streak at the tournament. Seppi's last tournament of the year was Wimbledon, where he lost to Andre Agassi.

Seppi started the year 2007 by participating in the Australian Open. His match against Bobby Reynolds from the United States lasted five sets and had to be postponed due to the extreme heat, with temperatures exceeding 39 degrees Celsius.

In 2008, Seppi won his first Challenger level tournament in Bergamo, defeating Julien Benneteau in the final. He also defeated Lleyton Hewitt in the quarterfinals of the Rotterdam Open before facing Rafael Nadal, who was then the world's number two player. Seppi's victory was celebrated by the enthusiastic crowd, who sang "Happy Birthday" in unison. Only Robin Soderling managed to stop Seppi's winning streak. However, Seppi was not disheartened by the defeat and soon reached the semifinals of the Hamburg Masters tournament, marking his debut in the Masters series. He defeated Richard Gasquet, Juan Monaco, and Nicolas Kiefer in previous matches. Seppi eventually lost to Roger Federer in the semifinals.

In 2009, Seppi reached the semifinals of the tournaments in Belgrade and Umag. He also won his second Challenger championship in San Marino, defeating his compatriot, Potito Starace, in the final.

Seppi continued his success in 2010 by winning the Challenger tournament in Kitzbühel, defeating Victor Crivoi. In 2011, he won the Bergamo Challenger and achieved his first ATP title in Eastbourne, defeating Janko Tipsarevic. Seppi is fluent in Italian, German, and English. Apart from tennis, he is a fan of football and supports AC Milan. He also lives in the same city as his good friend and colleague, Karin Knapp, who competes in the Women's Tennis Association.

Seppi prefers to play on clay and hard courts, and he is currently coached by Massimo Sartori. His career peaked at 27th place in the world rankings.
