Biography of Andrey Derzhavin

Andrey Vladimirovich Derzhavin, a singer, was born on September 20, 1963, in Uhta, Komi Republic. He completed music school, specializing in piano. He started playing in amateur groups during his school years, playing the piano and guitar. Together with his classmate Sergey Kostrov from the Uhta Industrial Institute, they formed the group "STALKER" in 1985. Initially, the group was purely a studio project as they couldn't find a vocalist, and Andrey Derzhavin became the lead vocalist of the group. In 1986, their first Eurodisco-style songs "I want to forget the evil", "Without You", "Stars", and their first cassette album "Stars" were released. The group gained popularity in many regions of the country. In 1986, the group "STALKER" became part of the Syktyvkar Philharmonic and actively toured the country with Andrey Derzhavin on vocals and keyboards, as the music composer; Andrey Chuvashov on electronic drums, rhythm box; Vitaly Lichtenstein on keyboards and backing vocals; Sergey Terentyev on programming, sequencers, bass guitar; Sergey Kostrov as sound engineer and songwriter.

In 1989, Andrey Derzhavin and Sergey Kostrov came to Moscow, where they recorded two albums, "News from the First Hand" and "Life in an Imagined World" in A. Kutikov's "Synthesis" studio. Since the beginning of 1992, the group "STALKER" ceased to exist. Sergey Kostrov developed his own project, "LOLITA," but later reunited with Derzhavin. Their last disco-era hit, "Don't Cry, Alice," earned them the title of laureates of the "Song-93" competition.

In recent years, Derzhavin's style has become more "folk" as he wrote hits like "Someone Else's Wedding" and "Song about Brother," which earned him the diploma of laureate of the "Song of the Year-94" contest and established him as an independent artist. In 2000, Andrey Derzhavin became the keyboardist of the band "Mashina Vremeni" (Time Machine).

He is married and has a son, Vladislav.
