Early Life and Education

Andrew Holness attended St. Catherine High School and the University of the West Indies, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Management Studies and a Master of Science in Development Studies.

Personal Life

In 1997, Holness married Juliette Holness (née Landell), an accountant. They met as students at St. Catherine High School in the 1980s and have two children, Adam and Matthew. Holness is a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Political Career

Member of Parliament and Opposition Spokesperson

In 1997, Holness became a Member of Parliament (MP) for West Central St. Andrew. He served as Opposition Spokesperson on Lands and Development from 1999 to 2002, Housing in 2002, and Education in 2005.

Minister of Education

Holness was sworn in as Minister of Education in September 2007.
Prime Ministership
- First Term (2011-2012):

Holness was elected leader of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and Prime Minister on October 23, 2011, becoming the ninth person to hold the post. He retained the education portfolio.

- Second Term (2016-present):

In 2016, the JLP won the general election, and Holness became Prime Minister for a second time. His wife, Juliet, also entered Parliament, marking the first time a Prime Minister or Opposition Leader and their spouse served in Parliament simultaneously.

- 2020 Election and Re-appointment:

In 2020, Holness led the JLP to a landslide victory, becoming the youngest person in Jamaican history to be elected for a second term.

Republicanism

In March 2022, during the visit of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Holness expressed Jamaica's intention to become a republic.
