Biography of Andrew Weibrecht
Andrew Weibrecht was born in 1986 in Lake Placid, New York. He was the youngest child in his family and from a young age, he was able to convince his older siblings to take him skiing on the slopes of Whiteface Mountain. The place where the athlete was born is incredibly convenient for skiing. Weibrecht gained his first sports experience on the challenging slopes of Lake Placid. Growing up, Andrew began to demonstrate promising results, and his hard work paid off - in 2003, he made it into the U.S. Ski Team's developmental squad, which consisted of the most talented young athletes.
Early Career
Three times, in 2004, 2005, and 2006, Andrew Weibrecht participated in the Junior World Cup. In 2006, he won a bronze medal in the Super-G event at the World Cup. However, his debut in adult competitions in 2006 did not go well, resulting in his disqualification. But the following year, Andrew was able to showcase his abilities perfectly at the speed skiing competition in Beaver Creek, Colorado.
Olympic Journey
The 2009 World Championships did not go well for Weibrecht either - he veered off the track during the speed and super-combined downhill events, and finished in 39th place in the Super-G event. Nevertheless, his achievements were enough to earn him a spot on the U.S. Olympic team. During preparations for the Olympics, Andrew Weibrecht consistently demonstrated high results in both speed skiing and Super-G events.
Other Interests
From childhood, Andrew showed interest in other sports disciplines such as soccer and tennis. In his free time from training and competitions, Weibrecht is a student at Dartmouth College. One distinctive feature of the athlete is his relatively small stature. Andrew believes that this apparent disadvantage actually turns into an advantage on the slopes: "The fact that I'm not very tall gives me an advantage. And my center of gravity is slightly lower than other skiers, so I feel like I have a stronger stance."
Rising Star
Today, Andrew Weibrecht is considered a rising star in the U.S. Ski Team, and great records are expected from him on the ski slopes of Vancouver. However, talented newcomers competing for the most prestigious awards always emerge at every Olympics. Weibrecht is primarily grateful to his coaches for his success.
