Early Life and Education
Andrei Mikhailovich Borodin was born into a peasant family on October 15, 1912, in the village of Safonovka, now part of Korenevsky District, Kursk Oblast. In 1932, he graduated from the Kursk Veterinary College and was subsequently assigned to the Kustanai Oblast, where he initially worked as a veterinary doctor.
Early Career in Agriculture
In 1937, Borodin became the head of the veterinary office at the Zabelovsky agricultural combine in Dzhrigharin District. From 1939, he served as the head of the veterinary department of the Kustanai Oblast Land Department.
Political Involvement
In 1941, Borodin became deputy head of livestock for the Kustanai Oblast Land Department and joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. From 1942 to 1945, he held positions as deputy head of the agricultural department and deputy secretary of the Kustanai Communist Party of Kazakhstan on livestock.
Party Leadership
From 1945 to 1953, Borodin worked in the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan, serving as deputy head of the livestock department and deputy head of the agricultural department. In 1951, he graduated from the Alma-Ata Zooveterinary Institute with a degree in zootechnics.
Government Positions
In 1953, Borodin became first deputy minister of agriculture and procurement for the Kazakh SSR. He later served as the authorized representative of the USSR Minister of Procurement in the Kazakh SSR. In 1956, he was elected first secretary of the Akmola Communist Party of Kazakhstan.
First Secretary of Kustanai Oblast
From 1957 to 1959, Borodin worked as minister of agriculture for the Kazakh SSR, deputy chairman of the State Planning Committee of the Kazakh SSR, and head of the agricultural department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan. From 1959 to 1981, he served as first secretary of the Kustanai Communist Party of Kazakhstan, after which he retired as a Union-level pensioner.
Member of the Supreme Soviet
Borodin was a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (1966-1984). He also served as a member of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, a deputy in the Supreme Soviet of the Kazakh SSR, and a deputy in the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.
Legacy
Borodin's personal archive is housed in the Kustanai Oblast State Archive. In 1994, the "Kazakhstanez" breeding farm, where he once worked as a veterinarian, was renamed the AOOOT named after A.M. Borodin. In 2001, a street in Kustanai was named after him.
Awards and Honors
In 1972, Borodin was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor for his outstanding contributions to the Communist Party and the Soviet state in increasing agricultural production. He also received five Orders of Lenin, the Order of the Red Star, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and numerous medals, including the Polish Order of "Military Valor."
