Early Life and Career
Anatoly Timofeyevich Gatsenko was born on October 29, 1928, in the village of Novo-Dzherelievskaya in the Krasnodar region of southern Russia. Raised in a farming family, he began his working life in 1944 as a tractor driver.
Military Service and Post-War Work
In 1948, Gatsenko was drafted into the Soviet Army. Upon his demobilization, he joined a Komsomol youth movement, which placed him in mines in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine.
Shakhtar Career
In February 1952, Gatsenko began working at the Yuzhnaya coal mine in the city of Shakhty, serving initially as a loader. He quickly mastered the profession and soon met the production norms of experienced miners. From 1961 until his passing, Gatsenko served as a foreman of a coal mining crew.
Leadership and Achievements
Gatsenko was an exemplary foreman, leading one of the best crews in the mine and the Rostovugol company. His team consistently excelled in socialist competitions, achieving a daily coal extraction rate of 1,000 tons.
Community Involvement
Beyond his mining work, Gatsenko dedicated himself to social causes. He was elected as a delegate to the district and city Soviets, served on the mine's labor union, and became a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1962. He held leadership roles within the party, including membership in the city committee's bureau and as a delegate to the 24th CPSU Congress in 1971.
Recognition and Legacy
Anatoly Timofeyevich Gatsenko passed away on December 19, 1987, leaving a lasting legacy as an outstanding miner and community servant. His exceptional leadership and dedication to the coal industry earned him widespread recognition and respect throughout the Rostovugol company and beyond.
