Early Life and Education
Aneurin Barnard was born in Ogmore Vale, Mid Glamorgan, Wales, on May 8, 1987. His mother, June, is a factory worker, and his father, Terry Barnard, is a miner. He has a sister named Cheri. Barnard attended school in Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. He made his television debut at the age of 12 in the Welsh-language series "Jacob's Ladder." Barnard went on to train as an actor at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, graduating in 2008. Notable classmates included Kimberley Nixon and Tom Cullen.

Theatre Career
Barnard made his professional stage debut as Melchior in the London premiere of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical "Spring Awakening." The production opened at the Lyric Hammersmith in February 2009 and transferred to the Novello Theatre from March to May 2009. For his performance in "Spring Awakening," Barnard won the 2010 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical. He has also appeared in stage productions of "Singin' in the Rain," "Der kaukasische Kreidekreis," "The Importance of Being Earnest," "Hobson's Choice," and "West Side Story," in which he played Tony. Additionally, Barnard has performed in radio dramas, including "Under Milk Wood."

Film and Television Career
Barnard's film credits include the historical action film "Ironclad," in which he delivered the Magna Carta, and the 2011 coming-of-age comedy "Hunky Dory," in which he performed renditions of 1970s hits such as "Life on Mars" by David Bowie and "Love Reign O'er Me" by The Who. In January 2012, Barnard portrayed photographer David Bailey in the television drama "We'll Take Manhattan," opposite Karen Gillan. He also starred in the horror film "Elfie Hopkins" that same year. In 2013, Barnard was considered for the lead role of Jack in "Jack the Giant Slayer," but the part ultimately went to Nicholas Hoult.

Barnard has appeared in several other films, including the horror films "Guinea Pigs" and "Citadel." He also starred as the titular character in the steampunk fantasy adventure "The Adventurer: The Curse of the Midas Box." In 2013, Barnard appeared in the thriller "Trap for Cinderella" and the drama "The Truth About Emanuel." He was cast as Charles Knight in the science fiction film "Grotesque" in 2014, but the project's status is currently unknown.

In 2014, Barnard portrayed Mykola in the war drama "Bitter Harvest," which was released in 2016. He also played Liverpool music manager Bobby Willis Jr. in the ITV miniseries "Cilla," about the early life and rise to fame of Cilla Black. In 2016, Barnard took on the role of Prince Boris Drubetskoy in a new BBC adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's "War and Peace." He is currently attached to star in Guillem Morales' thriller "Shomer."
