Angela Bettis is an American actress and film producer. She was born on January 9, 1973, in Austin, Texas, to Richard Joseph Bettis and Mary Lynn Guthrie. At the age of eighteen, she made her film debut in Franco Zeffirelli's "Sparrow," where she played the lead role. She then attended the American Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts and appeared in several episodes of popular TV series, as well as starring in the drama film "The Last Best Sunday." Her notable supporting roles in the movies "Girl, Interrupted" and "Bless the Child," alongside Winona Ryder and Kim Basinger respectively, brought her wider recognition.
However, it was her work in independent horror films that brought her the most popularity, with her starring role in Lucky McKee's "May" making her a true star. She also collaborated with McKee on an episode of the TV series "Masters of Horror" titled "Sick Girl," the psychological horror film "The Woods," in which her voice was used, and the film "Roman," where they swapped roles, with McKee taking on the lead role and Angela Bettis gaining her first directing experience.
In 2002, Angela Bettis played the lead role in the film "Carrie," a television remake of the famous 1976 movie based on Stephen King's novel. Some of her other notable works include starring roles in the films "Toolbox Murders" (2003), "Scar" (2007), and the experimental drama "The Circle" (2005), which was shot in a single take.
Currently, she is involved in the production of the film "Tamora Gamble." According to an interview with Robert Englund in July 2009, as well as unconfirmed information on IMDB, he is her co-star in the lead role.
