Early Career and Notable Works

Robinson's early directorial work includes the four-minute short film "Chickula: Teenage Vampire," released in 1995. However, she gained much recognition as a director with the release of the film "D.E.B.S." in 2003. The film delves into the topic of teenage lesbian relationships. In this spy story, several teenage girls, including the main characters Lucy and Amy, are portrayed as either lesbians or bisexuals, and their sexual orientation plays a key role in the film's plot. Robinson describes the film as: "It's the story of three super-spies, and they're all lesbians. I love a lot of comic book heroes, like Charlie's Angels, Batman, Josie and the Pussycats,... but I always wanted them to be gay, and they never were, so I wrote my own story."

Amy, played by actress Sara Foster, is depicted as an intelligent girl with good grades and "proper" behavior. Her perfection catches the attention of the "bad girl" Lucy Diamond, played by actress Jordana Brewster, who, throughout the plot, combines her plans to take over the world with seducing Amy. Initially, critics who reviewed the script expressed concerns that the producers involved in the film would diminish the role of the lesbian theme, but it later turned out that Robinson received full support and approval. The intimate and provocative relationship between Amy and Lucy remained untouched by censorship. Robinson herself commented on the situation, saying, "If anything, we worked on the script together to make the relationships between the girls more complicated and intimate."

Later Career

In 2007, Angela Robinson released the series "Girltrash!" which aired on "The L Word" TV channel. The online version of the series is available on the website www.ourchart.com. It is worth noting that Angela Robinson should not be confused with her nearly namesake, Angela Terry Robinson, who is also a filmmaker and art editor.
