Biography of Angela Ruggiero
Angela Ruggiero, an American ice hockey player, made history in 2005 by joining a men's team as a field player. With her height of 186 cm and weight over eighty kilograms, Angela seemed perfectly suited for hockey. Known as the famous "grenadier," she possessed all the qualities to make her hockey game beautiful, spectacular, and, of course, successful. Angela Ruggiero was born in 1980 in Panorama City, California. It is difficult to say if Angela was passionate about hockey from an early age, but it is known that when her father, Bill Ruggiero, took her brother to sign up for hockey, he was surprised by how expensive it was to train a child in hockey. Then, Bill came across an advertisement offering a "family discount" that the section gave if parents brought more than one child from the same family. Reluctantly, the frugal father signed up his unsuspecting daughter Angela for hockey, along with his son, and their sister Pam also joined the team. Thus began Angela Ruggiero's brilliant hockey career. Initially, when she started playing, Angela realized that skating, and even just standing on skates, was a difficult task. However, she quickly began to achieve success on the ice, and after some time, Angela became a strong and quite aggressive player. At the age of thirteen, Angela played in a girls' team in a suburb of Los Angeles. Later, as a student at Harvard University, Ruggiero played for the NCAA team. In 1998, Angela won the gold medal as part of the US Olympic team at the Nagano Olympic Games. In 2002, she won the silver medal in Salt Lake City, and four years later, in 2006, she won the bronze medal in Turin. In 2005, Angela Ruggiero made history by joining a men's team as a field player. With her height of 186 cm and weight over eighty kilograms, Angela seemed perfectly suited for hockey. Currently, Angela plays for the women's national hockey team of the Western Women's Hockey League (WWHL) "Minnesota Whitecaps" and actively prepares for the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada. She holds a master's degree in management. In 2005, Angela Ruggiero released her book "Breaking the Ice: My Journey to Olympic Hockey, the Ivy League & Beyond," in which she shares the challenges of being a female hockey player in a predominantly male sport, reveals some behind-the-scenes secrets of the hockey world, and addresses the issues faced by women's hockey. Angela and Bill Ruggiero, who also became a well-known hockey player (a goalkeeper), form the world's first hockey family combination of "brother-sister." It is said that Angela Ruggiero, despite the toughness of her chosen sport, has a cheerful and friendly personality, loves music, and enjoys traveling.
