Angelo Maria Quirini
Early Life and Religious CareerIn 1696, Angelo Maria Quirini joined the Benedictine order. He was ordained a priest on March 24, 1703, and later became the abbot of the monastery of Monte Cassino.
Archbishop and Cardinal
On November 22, 1723, Quirini was appointed Archbishop of Corfu, a position he held until July 30, 1727. On July 30, 1727, he became the Bishop-Archbishop of Brescia, serving in this capacity until January 6, 1755.
On December 9, 1726, Quirini was made a cardinal in pectore (in secret) by Pope Benedict XIII. His cardinalate was made public on September 20, 1727, when he was appointed Cardinal-Priest of the Church of Sant'Agostino. He later served as Cardinal-Priest of the Church of San Marco and Cardinal-Priest of the Church of Santa Prassede.
Vatican Roles
Quirini was appointed Librarian of the Holy Roman Church on September 4, 1730, a position he held until his death. In August 1740, he became the Prefect of the Sacred Congregation of the Index, which he oversaw until January 6, 1755.
Works and Contributions
Angelo Maria Quirini authored several works, including "Primordia Corcyrae" (1725), "Specimen variae literaturae" (1739), and "Pauli II P. M. vita" (1740). He also translated works by Saint Ephrem the Syrian into Greek, Syriac, and Latin.
