Biography of Angie Stone
Angie Stone, born Angela Laverne Brown on December 18, 1961, in South Carolina, is an American R&B and soul singer, songwriter, pianist, producer, and occasional actress.

Early Life and Career
Stone began her career in the choir of her local church under the guidance of Pastor Blakely N. Scott, who recognized her musical talent. In her childhood, she played basketball and wrote poetry. She would often sing songs by her idols, such as Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, and Donna Hathaway, while alone at home. She saved money from her unfulfilling job to fund her demo recording.

Stone started her music career as part of the female funk trio "The Sequence" in the early 1980s. In 1980, they achieved success with the hit "Funk You Up," which reached the 15th position on the American Black Singles Chart. Afterward, Stone collaborated with the rap group "Mantronix" and recorded an album with Lenny Kravitz. She also worked on creating the neo-soul trio "Vertical Hold," which released its first work, the gangster rap single "Summertime," in 1989. Throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, "Vertical Hold" produced several hits and recorded two albums in 1992 and 1993. In 1996, Gerry DeVeaux, Lenny Kravitz's cousin, took Stone under his wing. Under his guidance, Stone formed the duo "Devox" with Charlie Moult and recorded one studio album featuring Angie's songs. During this time, she also recorded two albums with D'Angelo and embarked on a joint tour across the United States to support the albums.
Solo Career and Acting
After a few years, Angie Stone released her first solo studio album, "Black Diamond," which eventually went gold. In 2001, she released her second studio album, "Mahogany Soul," and followed it up with two more albums by 2007, including a compilation of her greatest hits. Throughout her musical career, Stone collaborated with various R&B and soul artists such as Raphael Saadiq, Blue, Alicia Keys, Eve, and others. However, Stone did not limit her development to just music. She decided to venture into acting and made her screen debut in the 2002 comedy film "The Hot Chick" as Madame Mambuza. She has since appeared in a total of four film projects and has worked on several television shows.
Personal Life
Angie Stone has a 25-year-old daughter from her marriage to Rodney Stone, a member of the group "Funky Four Plus One." She also has a son, born in 1998, from her relationship with D'Angelo. Additionally, Stone is a stepmother to her current husband's two children as well. In 2008, her daughter gave her a grandson, making Stone a grandmother.
