Biography of Ángel Corella
Ángel Corella was born in Madrid in 1975. He began his ballet training in his native Spain, with his teachers being Víctor Ullate and Carmina Moreno.
Early Success
In May 1991, Corella won first prize at the National Ballet Competition in Spain. Then, in December 1994, he received the Grand Prix and the gold medal at the International Dance Competition in Paris.
American Ballet Theatre
As a soloist, Ángel Corella joined the American Ballet Theatre in April 1995 and was promoted to principal dancer in April 1996. His repertoire at ABT includes leading male roles in ballets such as "La Bayadère," "Le Corsaire," "Don Quixote," "Coppélia," "The Merry Widow," "La Sylphide," and "Romeo and Juliet."
International Recognition
In 1996, Corella performed at a ballet gala in London in front of Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret. He also appeared on television in a presentation at the Kennedy Center in 1996 and made a cameo appearance in an episode of the TV series "Sesame Street" in 1998.
