Anita Marton is a Hungarian shot putter and discus thrower who has been competing for the Hungarian national team since 2009. She was born on January 15, 1989, in the city of Szeged, Hungary. Marton began actively participating in athletics from a young age and received training at the local sports club "Bekescsabai" in the city of Bekescsaba. In her youth, she competed in both shot put and discus throw but eventually focused primarily on shot put.

Early Career

Marton made her international debut in the 2005 season, participating in the Junior World Championships in Morocco, where she finished eleventh in shot put and nineteenth in discus throw. A year later, she improved her results at the same competition in Beijing, placing twelfth in shot put and fifteenth in discus throw. She continued to show progress and achieved seventh place in shot put and sixth place in discus throw at the European Championships in the Netherlands in 2007. She came even closer to podium finishes at the Junior World Championships in Poland in 2008.

International Success

In 2009, Marton earned a spot on the Hungarian national team and made her first appearance at the Senior World Championships and European Indoor Championships, although she was unable to compete with her adult competitors and did not place within the top ten. In the following season, she secured seventeenth place in shot put at the World Championships in Doha and eleventh place at the European Championships in Barcelona. In 2011, Marton achieved fifth place at the European Indoor Championships in Paris, twenty-second place at the World Championships in South Korea, and seventh place at the Universiade in Shenzhen. She also won a bronze medal in discus throw at the European Youth Championships in the Czech Republic.

Olympic Participation and Continued Success

Thanks to a series of successful performances, Marton earned the right to represent her country at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. She achieved a distance of 17.48 meters in shot put and finished in twenty-third place. Following the London Olympics, Marton remained a key member of the Hungarian national team and continued to participate in major international competitions. In 2013, she represented her country in shot put at the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg, where she placed twelfth, and at the World Championships in Moscow, where she achieved twentieth place. She also competed at the Universiade in Kazan, finishing fourth in shot put.

International Recognition

Marton's first significant result at the senior international level came in the 2014 season when she won a bronze medal in shot put at the European Championships in Zurich, Switzerland. A year later, she claimed victory at the European Indoor Championships in Prague, defeating all her opponents and earning a gold medal. At the World Championships in Beijing, she finished fourth. In 2016, Marton won a silver medal in shot put at the Indoor World Championships in Portland, USA, finishing second to American athlete Michelle Carter.
