Anita Pallenberg was an Italian actress, fashion designer, and model. She was born during the Second World War in Rome, which was occupied by German forces at the time. Her father, Arnaldo Pallenberg, was an Italian artist, and her mother, Paula Wiederhold, was a German secretary. Pallenberg grew up speaking four languages and had interests in medicine, graphic design, and photo restoration.
Pallenberg lived in Germany, Italy, and America before finally settling in London. While working in New York City, she performed in the play "Paradise Now" at the Living Theater, known for its nudity, and collaborated with Andy Warhol. Pallenberg gained the most fame for her complicated personal life.
In 1965, while working at a fashion show in Munich, Pallenberg met Brian Jones and Keith Richards, both guitarists of the Rolling Stones. She was initially with Jones for two years before leaving him for Richards. Pallenberg and Richards were together for 13 years but never officially married. Rumors circulated that Pallenberg had a fling with Mick Jagger during the filming of "Performance," which Richards confirmed in his autobiography "Life." However, Pallenberg denied these rumors.
Pallenberg and Richards had three children together. Marlon was born on August 10, 1969, Angela on April 17, 1972, and Tara on March 26, 1976. Unfortunately, Tara passed away shortly after birth.
There is debate among biographers and Rolling Stones fans about Pallenberg's role in the band's activities. It is clear that she had some influence on Richards and Jones, but she was more than just a typical musician's companion. Jagger respected Pallenberg to the extent that he agreed to rework some of the songs criticized by her on the album "Beggars Banquet." Additionally, she is credited as a backing vocalist in the song "Sympathy for the Devil" on the compilation album "Forty Licks."
Pallenberg was known for her interest in black magic and spiritual rituals, carrying a string of garlic to ward off vampires. Despite this, she was a strong and determined woman. Like Keith Richards, Pallenberg struggled with drug addiction throughout her life.
During her 40-year acting career, Pallenberg appeared in over a dozen films, with one of her most notable roles being in the classic science fiction film "Barbarella." She was even portrayed by other actresses in biographical films about Brian Jones in 2005 and in the television series "Studio 60" in 2006.
In the 1990s, Pallenberg pursued a career in fashion design after studying at the St. Martins School of Art and Design in London for four years.
