Anky van Grunsven: An Equestrian Legend

Anky van Grunsven is a Dutch dressage rider and the most decorated Olympian in Dutch history. She has won an incredible three Olympic gold medals, all in individual events, and five Olympic silver medals. She competed in seven consecutive Summer Olympics from 1988 to 2012, winning medals in all but her first appearance.

Olympic Success

Van Grunsven made her Olympic debut in 1988, riding Prisco. She went on to win three consecutive medals with Bonfire from 1992 to 2000. From 2004 to 2012, she competed with Salinero, earning medals in each of these Games.

World and European Championships

Van Grunsven also dominated at the World and European Championships. She is a two-time World Champion and a four-time European Champion. In total, she has won 30 medals at the Olympic Games, World Championships, and European Championships, including nine gold medals.

World Cup Triumphs

Anky van Grunsven has also won the FEI Dressage World Cup a record eight times (1995, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2004, 2005, and 2006).

Personal Life

Anky van Grunsven is married to her coach, Sjef Janssen, and they have two children. She was named Dutch Sportswoman of the Year in 1994. Van Grunsven's achievements have made her an icon in the equestrian world and a role model for aspiring athletes.
