Biography of Anne Keothavong
Anne Keothavong is a British tennis player of Laotian descent. She has won 22 ITF tournaments, including 17 in singles. Keothavong reached the semifinals of the junior singles tournament at Wimbledon in 2001.
Early Life:
Anne was born in London, United Kingdom, to Laotian immigrants, Somsak and Votana Keothavong. Her father, Mr. Keothavong, was a bank employee and introduced his children to tennis from an early age. Anne has two brothers, James (who is also well-known in the tennis world as an elite umpire) and Mark, as well as a younger sister, Lena, who played tennis professionally for a while.
Tennis Career:
Anne's early years as a tennis player were spent on the Hackney Downs and Highbury Fields courts. While her favorite surface is hard court, she has achieved good results on grass and carpet as well. Her coaches include Nigel Sears, the head coach of the LTA women's tennis division, and former WTA player Claire Curran. Keothavong trains at the LTA National Tennis Centre in Roehampton, southeast London.
Playing Style:
Anne's strongest asset is her powerful right-hand shot, which she uses to dictate play from the baseline. She often employs topspin shots to increase the chances of landing the ball in the court. Another key strength for Keothavong is her first serve, as her high percentage of successful serves and the number of points won on it often become decisive factors in her winning matches.
