Background and Education

Anneliese Dodds was born and raised in Aberdeen, Scotland. In 1996, she moved to Oxford to study Politics, Philosophy, and Ethics at St Hilda's College. After graduating, she conducted research in politics and healthcare policy in various sectors and countries.

Political Career

Early Attempts and Entry into Parliament

Dodds unsuccessfully ran for the Labour Party in Billericay in the 2005 general election and in Reading East in the 2010 general election. In 2014, she was elected as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for South West England.

Member of Parliament

Dodds made a decisive victory in the 2017 general election, winning the Oxford East constituency with 65.2% of the vote. She has served as the Shadow Financial Secretary to the Treasury since 2017.

First Female Shadow Chancellor

On April 5, 2020, Dodds was appointed as Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer in Keir Starmer's Shadow Cabinet, making her the first woman to hold this position in British history. She was re-elected to Parliament in the 2019 general election, although with a slightly reduced majority of 57%.

Personal Life

Dodds is married to Ed Turner, Deputy Leader of Oxford City Council. The couple has a son and a daughter.
