Biography of Annie Proulx

Annie Proulx is an American writer, journalist, and screenwriter. She was born on August 22, 1935, and grew up in a family of French immigrants who had moved to Canada (her father's surname is spelled as Prou). Another transcription in Russian also appears as "Prulx," although the author insists on transcribing it as "Pru" on her website. Proulx is the recipient of several literary awards. She has won the O. Henry Prize twice for Best Short Story, including her story "Brokeback Mountain" in 1998. She also received the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award in 1994 for her novel "The Shipping News." Her first novel, "Postcards," was awarded the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction.
Writing and Film Career

Proulx's first film adaptation came out in 2001, titled "The Shipping News," based on her novel. In 2003, she appeared in the film "Go West, Young Man!" playing herself. Her short story "Brokeback Mountain" was first published in The New Yorker and later included in the collection "Close Range" in 1999. It was adapted into a film with the same title in 2005. In July 2006, the collection of stories "Close Range" was published in Russia by Amfora Publishing House. Proulx's novel "The Shipping News" was also published in Russian by Amfora in 2005.
