Early Life and EducationPierre-François Bourdet was born into a family of genealogists. He initially pursued a liberal arts education at the Lycée Saint-Louis. However, following his mother's death, he enrolled in a Jesuit college in Rouen to study law. Despite completing his studies, Bourdet later decided to pursue medicine, enrolling in the College de l'Hôtel-Dieu in Paris.

For six years, Bourdet apprenticed under Dr. Moreau, specializing in surgery initially. In 1755, he shifted his focus to dentistry and maxillofacial surgery. Bourdet developed a deep knowledge of various medical disciplines, contributing numerous articles to medical journals throughout his career.

In 1759, Bourdet published a comprehensive description of dental instruments used in his time. His research on oral diseases and dental care established him as a pioneer in dentistry.
