Early Life and Education

Antanas Žukauskas was born in Lithuania, where he pursued his passion for sculpting and medal art. His talent and dedication led him to become a renowned artist.

Sculptures and Memorials

Žukauskas's notable sculptures include the tombstone of Antanas Jonynas (1978), which stands in the central square of Vilkaviškis. His monument to Vincas Kudirka, the author of the Lithuanian national anthem, was erected in 1996.

Medals and Commemorative Coins

Žukauskas designed the memorial medal for Zigmas Žemaitis (1984), an award bestowed upon individuals who have made significant contributions to Lithuanian education, culture, and science. His most famous works are the obverse and reverse designs for Lithuania's modern one-, two-, and five-litas coins (1998-2002), as well as numerous special and commemorative coins.

Euro Design Competition

In 2004, Žukauskas's design won first place in the competition for the Lithuanian version of the euro. The reverse of all euro denominations features the Lithuanian coat of arms, the "Vytis," along with the inscription "Lietuva." Production of the euro coins was scheduled to commence in 2007.
