Biography of Anthony Green

Early Life and Career

Anthony Green is an American musician who is currently the vocalist for the bands Circa Survive and Saosin, as well as pursuing a solo career. He has also been a part of other bands such as Audience of One and The Sound of Animals Fighting. Green is known for his high tenor voice.

Green formed his first band with his classmate Tommy Dougherty in 1997 while they were in high school. Initially, Dougherty played guitar while Green sang and played bass. They later added drummer Evan Madden to the band. Green wanted to name the band Saosin, but Dougherty and Madden disagreed. Before settling on the name Audience of One, the band performed under the names Handsome Pete and The Bill Bixby Experience. Due to Madden's busy schedule, they had to find a new drummer. Green switched to guitar and Dougherty started playing bass. In the summer of 1998, Green met Jay Dufour of the bands Makeshift and Yellow 5 at a Days Away show. After an audition, they started collaborating. They recorded their album "I Remember When This All Meant Something" at Skylight Studio in the summer of 1999, which was released on December 3 of the same year.

Jeer at Rome

In April 2000, Green recorded four demo recordings for the hardcore/metal project Jeer at Rome at Skylight Studio. The band consisted of Green on vocals, Steve Mensick and Mike Lepone on guitars, Chris Mensick on bass, and Luca Carmina on drums. They released a self-titled demo on CD. The band disbanded after a few performances in the spring and summer of 2000.

Zolof the Rock & Roll Destroyer

Green performed on six songs on the debut self-titled album of Zolof the Rock & Roll Destroyer. The recording took place primarily in 2000 and 2001 and was released in early 2002. The band consisted of Rachel Minton on vocals and keyboards, Anthony Green on vocals and backing vocals, Vince Ratti on guitar and keyboards, Bob Bonocora on vocals and bass, and Rick Delello on drums. In 2002, Green left the band due to personal circumstances, but maintained a friendship with the members. Ratti and Minton helped Green with vocal recordings for several instrumental demos of Saosin. In 2012, Ratti mixed the fourth album "Violent Waves" by Circa Survive. Minton also provided backing vocals on the song "Suitcase".

High and Driving

Green recorded a mini-album called "High and Driving" in 2002 at Skylight Studio. He also played most of the drums and some of the keyboards himself. Tim Arnold from Days Away and Good Old War provided the drums, and Ratti and Minton helped with keyboards. The recording was released online in early 2004 and officially on August 5, 2008, as part of the deluxe version of the album "Avalon".

Saosin

Green was part of the original lineup of Saosin, along with Beau Burchell on guitar, Justin Shekoski on guitar, Zach Kennedy on bass, and Pat Magrath on drums. Their first EP, consisting of five songs, was recorded in February and March 2003. Pat Magrath was a studio musician hired to record drums for the album. The drum parts were mostly written by Burchell and Alex Rodriguez. Rodriguez was supposed to be the drummer but was already part of the band Open Hand. Chris Warner briefly played drums during the early rehearsals. Christopher Sorenson replaced Kennedy, who left the band for personal reasons. Before their first performances, they replaced Warner with drummer Danny King. Eventually, Rodriguez became the permanent drummer of Saosin.

On June 17, 2003, the band released their EP "Translating the Name". As of 2008, it had sold approximately 62,000 copies. Green left Saosin in February 2004.

On February 20, 2014, Anthony Green announced his reunion with Saosin for their performance at the Skate and Surf festival on May 17, 2014. They later announced eight more joint concerts in 2014. Green hinted at the possibility of recording new material with Saosin after finishing the tour in support of Circa Survive's fifth album, "Descensus". Saosin announced that they would play several shows in California and Texas in January 2015.

The Sound of Animals Fighting

From 2004 to 2008, Green was part of the side project The Sound of Animals Fighting, which included members from bands such as Finch, Rx Bandits, Days Away, and Chiodos. The group recorded three studio albums: "Tiger and the Duke" (2004), "Lover, the Lord Has Left Us..." (2006), and "The Ocean and the Sun" (2008). In August 2006, the band performed four shows, one of which was recorded as a live DVD and CD called "We Must Become the Change We Want to See" (2007).

Circa Survive

Immediately after leaving Saosin, Anthony Green formed the band Circa Survive with Colin Frangicetto (former drummer of This Day Forward) and signed a contract with Equal Vision Records. Over time, the band moved away from post-hardcore and towards more experimental rock music. Brendan Ekstrom (also a former member of This Day Forward) joined the band as a guitarist. By the end of the summer of 2004, Nick Beard (from the band Taken) joined as the bassist, and Steve Clifford (from the band Reflux) became the drummer.

Within a year, the band released the limited-edition EP "The Inuit Sessions" and the full-length album "Juturna". In May 2007, their second album "On Letting Go" was released. In August 2008, the band ended their partnership with Equal Vision. Their third album "Blue Sky Noise" was released in April 2010 on Atlantic Records. In November 2010, they released the EP "Appendage" on the same label. Their fourth album "Violent Waves" was independently released on August 28, 2012. The fifth album, "Descensus," was released on November 28, 2014, on Sumerian Records.

Solo Career

Avalon (2008)
In December 2007, Anthony Green announced his plans to record his debut solo album. The album, titled "Avalon," was recorded at The Big House in Avalon, New Jersey, and featured musicians from the band Good Old War: Keith Goodwin, Dan Schwartz, and Tim Arnold. It was released on August 5, 2008.

While Green was on tour promoting the album, Colin Frangicetto worked on remixes for "Avalon." He used the original instrumental and vocal tracks but added new instruments and parts. The structure of most songs was preserved, making the album more of a remake than a remix. The digital release of the album took place on December 5, 2008, and it was made available on physical formats on January 20, 2009.

Jackie Haenn (2008)
On November 12, 2008, Anthony Green released a two-song EP titled "Jackie Haenn." The album was released to raise money for his cousin's wife, who was injured in a car accident on Halloween night. The album contained recordings made during the production of "Avalon."

Beautiful Things (2012)
In September 2009, Anthony Green announced that his second solo album would be titled "Beautiful Things." The recording took place in early January 2011 at The Big House, and once again, musicians from Good Old War joined him. The album was produced by Jason Cupp. The album's title is a line from the Good Old War song "Lullaby," and the album ends with a cover version of that song. It was released on January 17, 2012.

Young Legs (2013)
On November 12, 2013, Anthony Green released his third solo studio album, "Young Legs," on his own label Moshtradamus Records. The recording took place from May to June 2013 at Studio 4 in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. It was produced and engineered by Will Yip. Good Old War once again provided support for Green.
