Biography of Anton Kuznetsov
Anton Kuznetsov is a Russian and French actor, theater director, and theater educator. He was born on July 20, 1967, in Saratov, Russia. Kuznetsov completed his education at School No. 42 and later enrolled in the theater faculty of the Saratov Conservatory, studying under V. Z. Fedoseev. During his admission to the faculty, he performed a monologue by Platon Zybkina from A. N. Ostrovsky's play "The Truth is Good, But Happiness is Better." He completed his studies in 1988, specializing in theater and film acting. Kuznetsov furthered his education at the Saint Petersburg Theatre Academy under the guidance of Lev Dodin, graduating in 1996.
From 1993 to 1998, Kuznetsov lived and worked in France, serving as the assistant to the artistic director and director of the Odéon Theatre in Paris. Since 1997, he has collaborated with French composer Jean-Pascal Lamon, starting with his production at the Moscow Art Theatre named after Chekhov. Kuznetsov has been involved in directing dramatic and operatic performances in Paris, Salzburg, Amsterdam, Seville, Dijon, Strasbourg, Brussels, and organized his own theater company, "BABEL," in 1995. He also directed plays at the Saratov Young Spectator Theatre and the Moscow Art Theatre. In 1998, Kuznetsov became the chief director of the Saratov Drama Theatre. However, in 2004-2005, he left the theater and Saratov due to a severe creative conflict.
Kuznetsov has taught at the theater faculty of the Saratov Conservatory. In 2000, he, along with L. N. Vorobyova, started an acting-directing course, which they led for five years while also directing several plays and touring in France. In 2005, Kuznetsov started another course but eventually left Saratov and moved to France, with Igor Bagoley taking over as the course leader. In 2004, Jean-Claude Fall visited Saratov upon Anton Kuznetsov's invitation and became acquainted with the city's theater community. Six years later, Fall agreed to direct a play at the Saratov Young Spectator Theatre.
Since 2006, Anton Kuznetsov has resided and worked in France. He has been awarded the Golden Harlequin for directing the plays "Berendey" in 2000 and "A Long Happy Life" in 2003. He is also a recipient of the Order of Academic Palms and was honored as a Merited Artist of Russia in 2004.
