Cardinal Antonio Marcello Barberini, O.F.M. Cap.
Early Life and Ecclesiastical CareerAntonio Marcello Barberini was an Italian cardinal who served as a prominent figure within the Roman Catholic Curia. Born into the influential Barberini family, he was the younger brother of Pope Urban VIII.
In 1625, Barberini was appointed Bishop of Senigallia and later served as Secretary of the Supreme Sacred Congregation of the Roman and Universal Inquisition from 1629 to 1633.
Cardinalate and Curia Positions
On October 7, 1624, Barberini was elevated to the rank of Cardinal and named Cardinal-Priest of Sant'Onofrio al Gianicolo. He subsequently held the titles of Cardinal-Priest of San Pietro in Vincoli and Cardinal-Priest of Santa Maria in Trastevere.
Barberini was appointed Grand Penitentiary from 1633 to 1646 and Librarian of the Holy Roman Church from 1633 to 1646. These prestigious positions further cemented his influence within the Curia.

Antonio Marcello Barberini was related to several prominent cardinals.
