Veic dismissed all accusations of unfair play as "ridiculous and baseless" in a brief statement. Despite the controversy, Veic continued to have success in his next match. He defeated Russian tennis player Evgeny Korolev with a score of 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 in the second round. However, he lost to his compatriot Marin Čilić in the quarterfinals with a score of 6-2, 7-6. Čilić went on to win the tournament.
