Political Career

Imran Khan is a Pakistani politician who serves as the interim Prime Minister of Pakistan since August 14, 2023. He succeeded Shabaz Sharif as the incumbent Prime Minister. Prior to this, Khan held the position of Chief Minister of Balochistan from 2015 to 2017.

Early Life and Education

Khan was born and raised in Quetta, Balochistan. He received his early education at St. Francis School, Quetta, and later joined Cadet College Kohat. Khan holds a Master's degree in Political Science and Sociology from the University of Balochistan.

Teaching and Political Entry

Khan began his career as a schoolteacher in his hometown. He entered politics in 2008 and was elected to the Balochistan Assembly in 2013 on a Pakistan Muslim League (N) ticket.

Senate Tenure

In 2018, Khan was elected to the Senate of Pakistan as an independent candidate from Balochistan. He took oath as a senator on March 12, 2018. Khan served as the Chairman of the Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development and was a member of other committees, including the Business Advisory Committee, Finance and Revenue, Foreign Affairs, and Science and Technology.

Founding of Awami Balochistan

Khan was a founding member of the new political party, Awami Balochistan. On August 14, 2023, he was appointed as the interim Prime Minister of Pakistan, succeeding Shabaz Sharif. President Arif Alvi signed the appointment, making Khan the caretaker Prime Minister.

Personal Life

Khan belongs to the Kakar tribe of Pashtuns, primarily residing in northern Balochistan. In addition to his political involvement, Khan also participates in various think tanks that shape Pakistan's foreign policy. He closely follows the geopolitics of South Asia, particularly Afghanistan-Pakistan relations. Khan is a lecturer at the Quetta Command and Staff College and the National Defense University in Islamabad, where he teaches international relations. He is fluent in Pashto, Urdu, Persian, English, Balochi, and Brahui.
