Education

Anwar Ridhwan, a prominent contemporary Malaysian writer, holds a Bachelor's degree (1973), a Master's degree (1983), and a PhD (1998) from the University of Malaya. He also participated in the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa in 1986.

Career

From 1997 to 2000, Ridhwan taught Malay at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. He served as Deputy Director-General of the Malaysian Language and Literature Council from 2001 to 2005. Currently, he holds the position of Dean of the Faculty of Literature at the National Academy of Arts and Culture.

Literary Contributions

Ridhwan is a prolific author of novellas and short stories. His works have been translated into various languages, including English, Arabic, Hungarian, Italian, Chinese, German, Russian, and French. He has won numerous national awards and the Southeast Asian Literary Award (2002).

National Writer

In 2009, Anwar Ridhwan was conferred the prestigious National Writer title, becoming the tenth recipient of this honor in Malaysia. This distinction recognizes his outstanding literary contributions.

Lexicographical Expertise

Beyond his own writing, Ridhwan has also served as an academic consultant for several dictionaries published in Malaysia, including the Russian-Malay and Malay-Russian dictionaries.
