Arakén Patusca: The Legendary Forward from Brazil
Early Life and Club CareerArakén Patusca, born in Santos, Brazil, embarked on his illustrious football career at his hometown club, Santos FC, in 1923. The son of Santos president Sizinho Patusca and brother to fellow Santos star Ari Patusca, Arakén showcased his exceptional talent from a young age.
Throughout his career, Arakén represented five clubs: Santos FC, Atlético Santista, São Paulo FC, Independiente, and Estudantes-Paulista. His most successful years were spent at Santos, where he guided the team to three Campeonato Paulista runner-up finishes (1927, 1928, and 1929). In 1927, Arakén emerged as the top scorer in the state of São Paulo with 31 goals. In total, he made 193 appearances for Santos and scored 177 goals, including the club's 1,000th goal (on March 24, 1929, against Atlas Flamengo).
International Career
Arakén represented Brazil at the inaugural FIFA World Cup in 1930, making one appearance in their losing match against Yugoslavia on July 14, 1930. Following the disappointing World Cup campaign, Arakén, like many Brazilian players, was not called up to the national team again.
Legacy and Passing
Arakén Patusca retired from football and passed away in his hometown of Santos in 1990 at the age of 84. His exceptional goal-scoring abilities and contributions to Brazilian football left a lasting impact on the sport and earned him recognition as one of the legends of the game.
