Biography of Aram Sarkisian
Aram Zavenovich Sarkisian was an Armenian statesman, born on January 2, 1961, in Ararat. He was the younger brother of the assassinated Vazgen Sarkisian.
Education and Early Career
From 1967 to 1977, Sarkisian attended the Ararat Rural School. He then went on to study at the Yerevan Art School from 1977 to 1980. Following that, he pursued a degree in architecture and engineering at the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute, graduating in 1984. During his time at the institute, he served in the Soviet Army from 1980 to 1982 and participated in the defense of Armenia's borders, becoming a member of the Union of Soviet Engineers.
Professional Career
From 1989 to 1993, Sarkisian worked at the "Araratpromstroy" Trust, where he held various positions, including foreman, laboratory manager, deputy chief engineer, and chief engineer. He then moved on to the "Araratcement" Union, where he served as an assistant director, deputy general director, administrative director, director, and finally as the general director from 1999 to 2000.
Political Career
In 1999, Sarkisian became the Prime Minister of Armenia. During this time, he was a member of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA). In 2001, he founded and became the leader of the Republic Party.
Later Career
After his term as Prime Minister, Sarkisian served as the general director of CJSC "Araratcement" from 2000 to 2002. In 2003, he ran as a candidate for the presidency of Armenia. From 2003 to 2007, he served as a member of parliament, where he was a member of the permanent commission on financial, budgetary, credit, and economic issues. Throughout his political career, he remained a member of the Republic Party.
