Giorgia Meloni: A Rising Star in Italian Politics

Early Life and Activism

Giorgia Meloni was born in Rome on January 15, 1977, in a working-class neighborhood called Garbatella. At age 15, she founded the student association "Gli Antenati" to oppose an education reform. In 1996, she became the leader of "Azione Studentesca" and in 1998 was elected to the Rome Provincial Council, serving on the Commission for Culture, School, and Youth Policies.

Rise Through the Ranks

In 2001, Meloni was appointed coordinator of "Azione Giovani," the youth wing of the National Alliance party. In 2004, she became its leader at a national convention. Her political rise continued when she became Minister for Youth in Silvio Berlusconi's fourth government in 2008, at the age of 31, making her the youngest minister in Italian history.

Foundation of Brothers of Italy

In 2012, Meloni left the People of Freedom party and co-founded the Brothers of Italy party, along with Ignazio La Russa and Guido Crosetto. In the 2013 parliamentary election, she was re-elected to the Chamber of Deputies and became leader of her party in 2014.

Possible Successor to Berlusconi

Meloni quickly emerged as a potential successor to Silvio Berlusconi as the leader of Italy's center-right. In 2014, she announced plans to unite all center-right forces under her leadership.

2016 Rome Mayoral Election

In 2016, Meloni announced her intention to run for Mayor of Rome, backed by Matteo Salvini's Northern League. She finished third in the first round, trailing behind the Five Star Movement candidate.

2018 Parliamentary Elections

In 2018, Brothers of Italy joined a center-right coalition for the parliamentary elections. Despite the coalition winning the most votes, the formation of a government took months and ultimately failed.

Personal Life

Meloni has a daughter named Ginevra with her partner, TV presenter Andrea Giambruno. In recent years, she has faced a stalker claiming to be her daughter's father.
