Biography of Aram Simonyan

Aram Grachevich Simonyan was born on April 12, 1955, in Goris, Armenia. He is currently serving as the rector of Yerevan State University.

Early Life and Education

In 1961, Aram moved with his family to Yerevan, where he began his studies at a secondary school. He later pursued his higher education at the historical faculty of Yerevan State University from 1972 to 1977.

Academic Career

After completing his undergraduate studies, Aram continued his academic journey at the Moscow Institute of History of the USSR Academy of Sciences from 1977 to 1981. He then worked as a junior researcher at the Institute of History of the Armenian SSR Academy of Sciences, where he later became a senior researcher.

In 1983, Aram defended his doctoral dissertation and began working at Yerevan State University. He started as an assistant professor in the Department of Soviet History and later became an assistant professor in the Department of Armenian History. He was promoted to the position of associate professor thereafter.

From 1993 to 1995, Aram served as the scientific secretary of Yerevan State University. He then held the position of head of the educational department from 1998 to 2000. In 2000, he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation and became a professor. The same year, he was awarded the title of scientific professor.

Aram has been recognized for his contributions to academia and has received the "Garegin Nzhdeh" medal and a letter of appreciation from the Prime Minister of Armenia.

Rector of Yerevan State University

Since May 15, 2006, Aram Simonyan has been serving as the rector of Yerevan State University, where he continues to lead and contribute to the educational and research activities of the institution.
