Early Life
Armenian artist Ararat Aleksanyan was born on February 26, 1991, in Vanadzor, Armenia. His father, Gagik Alikhanovich Aleksanyan, was an engineer, while his mother, Mariam Rubikovna Aleksanyan, was a seamstress. His name, Ararat, was inspired by the biblical mountain after his father's request to honor his own grandfather.
Childhood Passion
From an early age, Ararat displayed a remarkable talent for drawing. He would often lose his pencils, referring to them as his "documents." Recognizing his passion, his parents enrolled him in the Stepan Aghajanian School of Fine Arts in 2003, where he excelled and graduated with honors in 2007.
Artistic Education and Inspiration
After high school, Ararat pursued a degree in Fine Arts at the Ovannes Tumanyan Pedagogical Institute in Vanadzor from 2008 to 2012. During this time, he also played bass guitar in a local rock band. Following his graduation, Ararat completed his mandatory military service in the Armenian Armed Forces.
Despite the challenges of military life, Ararat's passion for art burned brightly. He yearned to return to his studio, where he could immerse himself in his work.
Artistic Style and Influences
Ararat's experimental, abstract, and expressionistic style allowed him to express his emotions, convey his thoughts, and engage with viewers on a profound level. His early influences included Dutch master Rembrandt van Rijn, whose works he admired and studied extensively.
International Exposure
In 2016, Ararat participated in a cultural heritage project in Chisinau, Moldova. A year later, he traveled to St. Petersburg, Russia, where he immersed himself in the city's rich art scene, visiting museums and absorbing inspiration.
Creative Journey
Ararat's prolific output included portraits, landscapes, still lifes, abstract works, and figurative art. His paintings were acquired by art collectors worldwide and showcased in the Kreopia community, where he actively participated.
Tragic End
Ararat's promising career was cut short on July 24, 2020, when he was tragically killed in a hit-and-run motorcycle accident. He had been preparing for an exhibition in Luxembourg and had secured a contract with a prestigious gallery in Madrid, aspirations that remained unfulfilled.
