Biography of Arcadi Boix Camps

Arcadi Boix Camps, a Spanish perfumer and writer, was born on March 31, 1962, in Barcelona, Spain. He grew up in Los Angeles and Hawaii, and developed a passion for natural aromas and plants through his extensive travels and living experiences in different countries. Boix Camps is the owner of the company 'Auram', which specializes in high-quality fragrances and advanced technologies. He firmly believes in the dignity of his profession and refuses to work with mass-market perfumery, criticizing the false values that surround the Western perfume industry in the world of fashion and design.

Arcadi Boix

A Perfumer to the Elite

Boix Camps is actively involved in business endeavors in the Middle East and is considered a personal perfumer to many royal figures, as well as representatives of the art world, particularly during his time in Brazil. He embarked on his career at a young age and already had a deep love for all types of scents, while also seeking philosophical roots associated with wisdom, wonder, emotions, and admiration for the world of aromas and flavors.

Arcadi Boix

A Pioneer in Perfumery

Early on, Boix Camps began classifying all the ingredients used in perfumery and finding the connection between their scent and their sensual description. This led to a series of articles, with the first one being in Spanish and the rest in English. Boix Camps has lectured at perfume congresses in Spain, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Israel, Japan, and the United States. In 2000, he published his first book, 'Perfumery: Techniques in Evolution', followed by a revised second edition in January 2009.

Exploring the Subjectivity of Perfumery

Boix Camps was a pioneer in describing the sensations experienced when smelling aromas and tasting raw materials, attempting to express the subjective emotions that arise from scents. Prior to his descriptions, perfume reviews were detached and rational, while the real need for perfume is subjective. People do not buy fragrances because they have a need to buy them, but rather because they enjoy buying them. Boix Camps has analyzed this phenomenon from a young age, using his rational mind to understand and explain the emotional and subjective 'heart' of perfumery.

A Master of Natural Ingredients

In his work, Boix Camps uses the purest and often rarest natural ingredients, such as the finest rose oils from different varieties of roses, precious oud oil, sandalwood oil, jasmine, saffron, musk, extracts of white and red lotus, pure magnolia extracts, gardenia, violet, vetiver, lily of the valley, and many other components that he believes have been overlooked by Western perfumers who lean heavily towards the chemical industry. Boix Camps considers himself an expert in combining Western perfumery methods with traditional Eastern ingredients.

A Life of Research and Creativity

Boix Camps divides his time between Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, Yalta in Crimea, Ukraine, Damascus in Syria, Andorra, the Hawaiian island of Kauai, and the Sultanate of Oman. Currently, he is preparing for the publication of his third book and continues to write numerous articles on topics related to tastes and aromas.
