Early Life and EducationArianna Huffington, born Arianna Stassinopoulos on July 15, 1950, is a Greek-American writer and journalist. She was born in Athens, Greece and still retains a strong Greek accent. At the age of sixteen, she moved to England and attended Girton College at the University of Cambridge. In 1971, Huffington was elected as the president of the Cambridge Union, becoming only the third woman in history to hold the position. It was during her time at Cambridge that she earned her bachelor's and master's degrees.
Journalism Career and Personal Life
After completing her education, Huffington moved to London where she lived with journalist Bernard Levin. However, their relationship ended in 1980 when Levin refused to marry Huffington. Despite the breakup, Levin had a significant influence on Huffington both professionally and personally. Huffington then moved to the United States and continued her journalism career, gaining recognition as a passionate liberal left-wing democrat.
In 1985, Arianna met oil magnate and millionaire Michael Huffington, and they got married a year later. The couple relocated to Washington, D.C., where Michael worked in the government. Later, they settled in Santa Barbara, California, where Michael ran as a Republican candidate for senator. Arianna played a role in organizing his campaign. However, in 1994, Michael narrowly lost the race for the Senate seat. The couple separated in 1997, and in 1998, Michael publicly acknowledged his bisexuality.
