Early Life and Education
Itzhak Finkel was born into a family of merchants in a small town near Minsk. He received his early education at a traditional Jewish school (heder) in Minsk before attending the Minsk Gymnasium, which he graduated from in 1894. Subsequently, he enrolled in the University of Kiev, where he pursued a degree in law.
Political Awakening and Marxist Influence
During his time at the Gymnasium, Finkel became influenced by the popular ideals of narodnichestvo, a Russian revolutionary movement. However, while in university, he encountered Marxist thought and became increasingly involved in socialist circles. As a result of his political activities, he was expelled from the university for three years.
Journalistic Career and Literary Contributions
Finkel embarked upon a prolific journalistic career, writing for various publications such as Minsk Courier, Minsk Morning, Northwestern Territory, New Dawn, Southern Word, and Matter of Life. He also served as the editor of Minsk Morning in 1909 and was a member of the editorial board of Northwestern Territory from 1903 to 1905.

In addition to his journalistic work, Finkel authored books and articles on legal theory and Marxist thought. His writings demonstrated a deep understanding of both fields and contributed to the intellectual discourse of his time.
