Early Life and Education

Arkadii Arkadii Arkanov was born in Kyiv on June 7, 1933. His father, Mikhail Iosifovich Shteinbok, was arrested and imprisoned in 1934. His mother, Olga Semyonovna, moved with him to Vyazma, where he spent the first few years of his life. After his father's release, the family moved to Moscow, where Arkanov lived in a small room in a barrack.

Arkanov attended school and graduated with honors. He was unable to pursue his desired professions due to unofficial policies of the time. In 1946, he enrolled in the First Moscow Medical Institute named after Sechenov.

Medical Career and Literary Beginnings

Arkanov completed his medical studies in 1957 and worked as a district doctor for three years. However, his passion for writing remained. He contributed humorous sketches to various actors, including Alexander Shirvindt and Mikhail Kozakov.

Literary Breakthrough and Marriage

In 1963, Arkanov's collaboration with Grigory Gorin resulted in the publication of a humorous piece in the popular television program "S Dobrym Utrom." Arkanov also became a freelance editor for the satire and humor section of the magazine "Yunost." In the same year, he married the renowned singer Maya Kristalinskaya.

Rise to Fame

Arkanov's literary career continued to flourish. He co-authored the screenplay for the film "Little Comedies of a Big House" and the play "Four Under One Cover." He also published numerous humorous essays and wrote lyrics for songs by various artists, including Laima Vaikule and Alexander Buynov.

Later Career and Personal Life

Arkanov became a member of the Union of Writers in 1968 and saw his works published in prestigious publications such as "Literaturnaya Gazeta." He hosted segments on popular television programs and made appearances in films.

After his divorce from Kristalinskaya, Arkanov married Evgeniya Morozova and had a son, Vasily. He later entered into relationships with journalist Natalya Smirnova, who bore him a son named Pierre, and musical editor Natalya Vysotskaya.

Legacy

Arkadii Arkanov passed away on March 22, 2015, at the age of 81. He is remembered as one of the most talented Soviet satirists whose sharp wit and engaging personality continue to entertain and inspire audiences to this day. His works remain a testament to his exceptional talent and his enduring legacy as a master of humor and satire.
