The Life and Career of Valery Ivanovich Zubov
Early Life and Military ServiceValery Ivanovich Zubov was born on October 20, 1927, in the village of Varenitsy, Kirov Oblast. From 1942 to 1944, he worked on the Vorontsovsky collective farm. Subsequently, from 1944 to 1952, he served in the Soviet air force as a cadet at the Chelyabinsk Military-Aviation School for Navigators and Gunners, and as an aerial gunner-radio operator with long-range aviation.
Agricultural Career
After completing his military service, Zubov worked as an apprentice and machinist at a machine-building plant in Moscow from 1952 to 1953. In 1958, he graduated from the Moscow Agricultural Academy. From 1958 to 1990, he held various positions within the agricultural sector, including agronomist, chief agronomist, and, from 1959 onwards, director of the Nazarovo state farm in the Nazarovo District of Krasnoyarsk Krai. The state farm, under Zubov's leadership, became renowned for its exceptional performance, consistently achieving high yields in grain and milk production while maintaining low meat production costs.
Political Career
In 1990, Zubov was elected to the Supreme Council of the USSR and became the Chairman of its Committee on Agrarian Issues and Food. On December 29, 1991, he was appointed Head of Administration of Krasnoyarsk Krai, a position he held until his resignation on January 21, 1993.
Retirement and Legacy
Following his retirement, Zubov served as an advisor-consultant to the Nazarovo Joint Stock Company, his former state farm. He remained active in the agricultural community until his passing on July 23, 2006. Zubov was buried in his home village and posthumously awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, 1st class, recognizing his outstanding contributions to agriculture and public service. His legacy as an innovative and dedicated agriculturalist continues to inspire those in the field.
