Childhood and Education

Born on September 15, 1929, into a family of civil servants, Gaiduk spent his childhood in Belarus. During World War II, his family sought refuge in Saratov, Russia.

Artistic Training

In 1953, Gaiduk graduated from the Minsk Art College. He furthered his studies at the Belarusian State Academy of Arts, where he received mentorship from renowned artists such as Leonid Leytman, Valentin Sukhoverkhov, and Vitaly Tsvirko. His graduation project, illustrations for Halldor Laxness's "The Atom Station," showcased his exceptional talent.

Academic and Artistic Career

From 1959 to 1969, Gaiduk taught at the Belarusian State Academy of Arts. As a member of the Belarusian Union of Artists and the Union of Artists of the USSR, he exhibited his works from 1959 onward.

Recognition and Legacy

Gaiduk's remarkable graphic artworks earned him wide recognition both within the post-Soviet space and internationally. In 1972, he was awarded the State Prize of the Belarusian SSR. The following year, he was bestowed the title of People's Artist of the Belarusian SSR.

Personal Life and Passing

Gaiduk spent his later years in Minsk, the capital of Belarus. He passed away on August 26, 2013, and was laid to rest in the Eastern Cemetery in Minsk. His artistic legacy continues to inspire new generations of artists.
