Biography of Armand Amar
Armand Amar is a composer and arranger who primarily writes music for film, theater, and television. Born in Israel, he spent his childhood in Morocco. He has composed music for 27 films.
Early Life and Education
Armand Amar is a French composer of Moroccan origin, born in Israel. He initially taught himself music, constantly practicing on various instruments. However, as music became his professional career, he began taking lessons from professional teachers, studying music notation and classical musical traditions.
Discovery of Dance and Collaboration with Choreographers
In 1976, he opened the world of dance by accepting an invitation from South African choreographer and anthropologist Peter Goss. This was a significant moment in his life. Unexpectedly, he found what he had long been searching for - something that had a direct relation to music, the power of improvisation, and the authenticity of emotions. He began working with various choreographers from diverse spheres of contemporary dance.
During this time, two more significant events occurred in his life - he participated in the school of actress Patricia Chéreau and started teaching at the National High School of Music.
Establishment of Long Distance Recording Company
In 1994, together with his friend Alan Weber, he founded the recording company Long Distance, which focuses on traditional, world, and classical music.
Music Career
Armand Amar has been composing music for films since 1997. He also writes music for television, theatrical productions, and musicals. His own music albums are released by companies such as naïve, Long Distance, Universal, and Sony.
