Armand Marciano: A Biography

Armand Marciano, a fashion designer and one of the founders of the iconic brand "Guess," grew up in the southern part of France, a region known for producing many famous designers and setting new fashion trends. Together with his brothers Maurice and Paul, Armand created their own clothing line, which was based on the denim fashion of the American West.

In the 1970s, many believed that the trend for jeans had already passed. However, the Marciano brothers created a unique collection, and their perspective on denim fashion set a new, fresh standard. Dealers initially viewed the "Guess" collection with skepticism, and buyers were not as enthusiastic about wearing jeans. However, the Marciano brothers had an instinctual feeling that they had to continue their work. They introduced the new form-fitting jeans called "3-zip Marilyn," which allowed the wearer to look incredibly sexy and individualistic. The department store chain "Bloomingdale" initially hesitated to sell them, but when they agreed to display around twenty pairs of "3-zip Marilyn," they sold out within an hour.

1981 marked the official birth year of the "Guess" label, which soon became one of the most influential and recognized global brands. The "Guess" collections included clothing lines for women, men, and children, as well as home accessories, all of which contributed to a unique personal lifestyle.

Since its inception, the leadership of "Guess" has been concentrated in the hands of the Marciano brothers – Maurice, Paul, and Armand. Armand Marciano holds the position of Executive Vice President of the company. He oversees retail operations, product supply, and customer relations. He also grants licenses for the sale of "Guess" products worldwide. Armand is responsible for the company's assets and oversees production and auxiliary events. Maurice Marciano is in charge of design and working with the company's subsidiaries; he is the driving force behind the company. Paul Marciano is responsible for the creative aspect, and his team has come up with several innovative ideas in presenting "Guess." It was Paul who negotiated with famous models such as Claudia Schiffer, Laetitia Casta, Carré Otis, and Helena Christensen for their participation in "Guess" advertising campaigns.

"Guess" continues to challenge high standards and remains a major driving force in the fashion world of the 21st century. Each product category reflects uniqueness and distinctiveness, a policy that is a priority for "Guess." Starting as a regular denim company in 1981, it has evolved into a new glamorous brand that dictates fashion trends in the denim world.
