Childhood and Family

Armie Hammer was born on August 28, 1986, in Santa Monica, California, to businessman Michael Armand Hammer and former bank loan officer Dru Ann Hammer. His father owns multiple businesses, including the film and television production company Knoedler Publishing and Armand Hammer Productions. Armie has a younger brother, Viktor (born in 1988), who followed in his father's footsteps as a businessman and philanthropist.

Armie's paternal great-grandfather was oil tycoon and philanthropist Armand Hammer, whose parents were Russian Jewish immigrants to the United States. Armand Hammer's father, Julius Hammer, was from Odessa in the Russian Empire and was a founder of the Communist Party of the United States. Armie's paternal great-grandmother, Olga Vadimovna Vadina (Olga Van Root), was an actress and singer.

Education and Career Beginnings

The Hammer family lived in Highland Park, Dallas County, Texas, for several years. When Armie was seven, the family moved to the Cayman Islands, where they lived for five years before settling permanently in Los Angeles.

Armie attended Faulkner's Academy in Governor's Harbour, Cayman Islands, and Grace Christian Academy, founded in the Caymans by his father. In Los Angeles, he attended the private Baptist school Los Angeles Baptist High School in the San Fernando Valley.
