Arnuwandas III: A Troubled Reign

Conflicts with the Coalition of States
Under Arnuwandas's rule, the Hittite Kingdom faced a formidable alliance of states, including the mysterious Ahhiyawa, Arzawa, and others. The alliance's strength was boosted by the defection of Maduwattas, one of the Hittites' most loyal vassals.
Invasion of Alashiya
Together, the alliance forces seized control of southwestern Asia Minor and even crossed the sea to invade Alashiya (Cyprus). Arnuwandas protested Maduwattas' actions, but the latter deceitfully claimed ignorance of Alashiya's status as Hittite territory.
The "Crimes of Maduwattas"
These events were meticulously recorded in a lengthy cuneiform tablet known as the "Crimes of Maduwattas." The tablet denounced Maduwattas' treachery and his role in the coalition's aggression against the Hittite Kingdom.
